Sunrise & Shine: "Heath Bars, Almond Joys, and Pay Days. Now that is just a list of shitty-ass candy bars."
Halloween is next Tuesday, so if you see Micheal Myers out in the lineup, don't be alarmed—it's probably just a costume.
I've never been a big fan of dress-up in the water, whether it be Santa Claus taking over Malibu or a trick-or-treat get-up finding corners at the inlet.
Nothing against costumes or the holidays, I'm just jealous that someone could have so much expendable surf time that they choose to spend a session in full wardrobe.
But with "what costume are you wearing?" the question of the week—and a recent Surfrider Foundation email reminding me that there can be a bit of excess on Halloween—I'm thinking maybe a DIY costume should be the answer.
Kook costume anyone?
Think about it, as surfers, we've already got all the ingredients and gear to be a kook, it's just a matter of assembly.
Now, this will come more naturally for some (cough, me...), but why not go full kook this Halloween and make your friends laugh a little.
I'm thinking the OG roller blading bro in full wetsuit, leash on, foam board under arm, life jacket strapped tight...always ready.
Should get you some treats for sure.
Mind if I join?
Show off your kook costume at Surf Station's Halloween Bash Oct. 31 in St. Augustine, or try to keep it clean at Red Dog Surf Shop's Halloween Chili Cookoff Oct. 28 in New Smyrna Beach.
Don't forget about what's on tap during the weekend of Nov. 10-12.

If this is what the Founder of Manana Surfboards is carrying on the daily, I'll take note. Any other east coasters out there dream of DIY board shaping to fill your too-frequent, out-of-the-water void?
Live longer with a little weekly laugh
Sometimes it's nice just to take an hour and get caught up on all the Kook Slams you've missed.
Looking forward to Mangrove Surf shop's Friday funny later today. I'll bet you a handful of Skittles and a Kit Kat bar that it's Halloween themed, and I guarantee you it's hilarious.
This section smells like rich mahogany and leather-bound books:
For those with little trick-or-treaters, Salty Sleepy Surfery Rhymes is a rad collection of surf-inspired poems and drawings perfect for bedtime reading.
