Sunrise & Shine: Deals and savings and discounts, oh my...

I've always been averse to all the Black Friday mania.

In the past, I just couldn't ever get behind the concept—too much for me.

In particular, I never understood the motivation to essentially stay up all night on Thanksgiving just to get to Best Buy or Target by midnight and roll in with the mob of cash-crazy consumers.

But after scoring a pizza oven for 20% off last Black Friday—and subsequently finding that pizza oven to be one of my favorite purchases of all time—I’ve definitely warmed up to the idea of an annual supermeal of savings.

(Seriously, this Roccbox pizza oven from Gozney is a gamechanger. I always prefer my parties to be pizza parties, and this thing helps you throw the best pepperoni ragers since your friend Johnny's 8th birthday party at Chuckie Cheese's.)

Anyway, after the life-altering success of the pizza-oven purchase—and with today’s economy—I figured why not embrace the Black Friday bargain hunt.

You're still not going to find me breaking down Walmart's doors at 12:01 AM on Friday, but if I can save some serious money on quality products that will enhance my time in and around the water, why wouldn't I take advantage of that?

So, this year, I’ve dialed in my discount scope and bino's to search for the best deals on the best surf stuff (no cheap stupid crap here), and I bagged a few good ones for ya.

Now, none of these are gonna make you feel as good as last week’s swell event made people like Oliver Kurtz feel.

Guys like Oliver scored super savings on the best swell south Florida’s hosted since Black Friday still lasted just one day.

For a few days, it seemed like the south Atlantic was tapping into the spirit of the shopping season, liquidating all its unbought barrels on the Florida coast.

Savvy surfers were there ready with their discount code too, bagging photos that will make you do a double take, wondering if you’re looking at Sebastian or a wave pool in Australia.

So yeah, that happened. And no new board or gizmo could ever bring you what those waves could provide, but these gear deals may at least help you enjoy your next session a little more.

Here’s what’s out there:

  • Rash Guard: I've been loving this wetsuit weather in Florida, mainly because I get to wear built-in sun protection in the water. I'm also stoked I finally just pulled the trigger on a Florence Marine X hooded long sleeve rash guard (30% sitewide). They pulled a page from the fishing industry and put a hood on a quality rash guard. So now, when the surface-of-the-sun summer cranks water temps into the boiling range, I can still comfortably cover up with minimal sunscreen required. (Also, a portion of their proceeds will benefit 4ocean and their mission to remove plastic from the world's oceans.)

  • Changing Poncho: With wetsuit season comes the parking lot change. A changing poncho like this one from Slowtide (25% with BFCM25) makes that experience a lot better.

  • Boardshorts: You can snag some really nice boardies from Howler Bros, Wellen, and Katin for $30 or less on Huckberry—now through Saturday night.

  • Boards: Not totally a Black Friday thing, but you can 15% off one R-series board from Almond, or 25% off of two.

  • Boards: Real Watersports is going pretty big for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, offering up to 75% off. You can pretty much find anything you're looking for there, or you can play your odds at winning a free board.

  • Apparel: Definitely a want not need, but Howler Bros direct has some good stuff on sale up to 50% until 11/27.

  • Footwear: Gotta have a good set of sandals, and I've never found a better pair than these from Indosole, made from recycled tire rubber and other recycled materials. I've had two pair and only had to get a second because I lost one flip flop from my first pair in a battle with a big snook over in Tampa Bay.

  • In Person: You can also stomp some pavement in search of deals too. Compound Board Shop in Sarasota, Catalyst Surf Shop in Melbourne, and no doubt others are entertaining Black Friday festivities.

  • Non-endemic: Just get a Gozney Roccbox. You won't regret it. $100 off right now. Pizza Pizza.

P.s. tomorrow is small business Saturday, so if you’re looking for something a little less selfish and a little more selfless, hit up your local surf shop and buy something for full price.

What new gear or Black Friday deals have you had your eye on? Let me know.
