Sunrise & Shine: My kid surfs better than your honor-roll student (not)
As a dad, I could say, "I don't care if my kids get into surfing, as long as they find something that makes them happy," but I'd be largely lying.
Of course, I do only hope that they find something that makes them happy, no matter what (as long as it's not video games, sword swallowing, or competitive cow tipping).
But deep down, I just really hope that thing IS surfing.
Not because I want to be some sort of overbearing contest dad, but because I desperately want to share surfing with my family.
I want them to experience that feeling, get bit by the bug, and share my addiction passion for the water.
I just want to be able to go surfing with them, dammit!
But how do you increase the odds of seeing surfing stick in your kids' lives?
How do you ensure surfing isn't just something their dad made them do a few times when they were little, and instead turn it into something they make their dad take take them to do as often as possible.
I'm not sure the exact answers to those questions, but I do know it's probably a combination of super simple and incredibly complicated.
Fun obviously needs to be a major part of it, too. The whole experience needs get them feeling chocolate wasted and stoked out of their minds.
Events like the Grom Fest in Satellite Beach are probably fun ways to dip their toes into the scene, offering a proper contest and event venue that's sure to get the kids fired up—maybe even plant the seed.
The event was supposed to be this Saturday, Dec. 16th, but the weather and waves are looking a little sporty for seven-year-olds, so they just announced that it's been postponed, likely to February.
I'm not sure I'll have my little ones contest ready by February, but I'm happy to give it a go.
Hopefully, I can figure out how to cook up the right recipe and crack the code—here's to tryin.

Anyone else got 80 milly extra laying around so we can open one of these in the heart of Florida? Would be great for grooming groms.

Proud of a salty St. Augustine surfer for seeking out help from the Stab community on a perspective realignment. The road from stoked to bummer can be a lonely one, but there's always a path back. You'll have to scroll to the very end of Stab's episode of The Drop from last week to hear this surf sin as well as the hilarious penance recommendations.
Pray for surf
Looks like some venti waves on the horizon and a couple good weeks in the forecast. Probably not ideal for teaching tiny kids though.
Just please, don't let it be video games.
